Condo on beach with less crowds?

My family(2 adults/2 kids-12/10 yrs.) is planning a trip to the Destin area at the end of July.

We are looking for a condo on the beach. Is there an area of Destin that is a little less crowded and not really in the middle of all the %26#39;action%26#39;?

Thanks for any help!

look further east....

Condo on beach with less crowds?

Try the Crystal Beach/Miramar beaches. Or go further on 30-A.. Also, don%26#39;t stay at a high-rise condo - choose either a townhouse or house or low-rise (less than 5 floors) condo

My family just returned from Destin on Wednesday. I can%26#39;t tell you how many times we%26#39;ve been since it%26#39;s so close to home (Jackson, MS), so I think I%26#39;ve had lots of experience with Destin. It%26#39;s my favorite beach destination and we%26#39;ve stayed in every area. This year we decided to stay on Holiday Isle because it%26#39;s the place where the majority of families from my kids schools stay. We usually stay at one of the properties at Sandestin Resort (and love it), so I was concerned about switching. I read that the beaches were washed away and it was a major concern. The person I rented from sent me pictures of the beach and it was fine. I was still worried.

Well, I%26#39;ve already booked for next year! We loved it! It%26#39;s exactly what you are looking for. It%26#39;s not crowded and there%26#39;s no sitting in traffic to run to the grocery. (you go to the red light and cross over the main highway to get to Winn Dixie %26amp; Target) I think I had just accepted that crowds and traffic was ';just part of it'; when vacationing in Destin. It%26#39;s not. Holiday Isle is perfect. The beach was beautiful and our condo complex was perfect. The Aegean is not a highrise complex. Our unit had been redone and we could throw a rock to hit the beach. We had a 2nd floor unit. It%26#39;s a perfect place for kids because it%26#39;s not so big. We caught 20+ crabs two nights we were there. It was the highlight of my 10 yr old daughter%26#39;s trip!

Hope this helps! I%26#39;ll post again if I think of anything else!

I forgot one important thing....

The beaches have not been rebuilt at the end of Holiday Isle. So do not stay at the Holiday Surf or Jetty East. There is very little beach. I wouldn%26#39;t stay past the Aegean. I%26#39;ll see if I can figure out how to post pictures.

melraycourt - so you stayed at the Aegean? So sign of the extensive damage it suffered?

There were no signs of damage! I know 12 other families who also stayed at the Aegean when we were there and they were pleased.

Sounds perfect! Thanks for the great info!

Is there any kind of surf for the kids to use their boogie boards/skimboards?

The surf will vary from day to day, but yes, it%26#39;s perfect for boogie boards and/or skimboards.

where did you catch teh 20+ crabs? we are plannning to go in july and have no idea how to catch crabs adn wehre? also what site did you use to book the condo?

30A is probably your best bet. MUCH less crowded than the Destin area, but you are still only 20 minutes away. Especially if you stay on the west end of 30A. Look in Dune Allen Beach maybe or near Gulf Place in Santa Rosa Beach.
