Miami or Keys for 2 nights?

My family and I are headed down to Miami for a cruise in January and decided to arrive a couple of days early. My question is should we stay in Miami or wonder down to the Keys. We really like the ocean and a more laid back atmosphere. Something a budget would be a plus.

It would be hard to find anything in the budget category in the Keys - that is the ';very'; high season. Even Miami Beach or any of the coastal areas will be in their high season rate. How old are the children?

We only have 1 child and she is 6. Also would like to add,my budget is in the $100-$150 per night. Not looking for a Motel 6 or anything.

You would get more answers if you post this in the Miami or Key West forums. In January though, $150 might be the low end of what you will find - if there is anything at that price point.
