The old chesnut, when to visit? Time to decide my dates..

Hi all,

Sorry to ask the old questions, but here goes.

Planning visit for 2009. I%26#39;ve got 2 sets of dates in mind primarily, but not sure which is best.

16th Feb 2009 for 2 weeks or 20th April same duration. Both a Monday, can +/- a day or two, but trying to avoid w/end flight supplements.

Party of 4, me (43), my dad (69), my kids, both 7.

16th Feb is Presidents day. Does that write off the whole week, or just that day? Is it too cold to visit the waterparks during the day in February?

Is 20th April too soon after Easter, or will it have died down a bit?

I%26#39;ve been 3 times previously, but didn%26#39;t have kids so went out of season. 1s 2wks Feb seemed cool, 1st 2 wks Sept raging hot (heatwave apparently) May was spot on.

Sorry about the questions, but you all know how important the planning stages are.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

The week of Presidents%26#39; Day is usually pretty busy; the week following you would be safe. It%26#39;s usually pretty cold in Feb, so I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;d want to visit water parks then. But, I%26#39;m a native Floridian, so maybe it would be okay for you?

I think your best bet would be to visit in April. Easter is on the 12th, I believe, so you should be okay as far as attendance levels. And it will be warmer for the water parks.

Have you visited www.allears.net? They have excellent info as far as the kinds of questions your asking.

Hi

April looks best its warm but not roasting the humidity isn%26#39;t bad and neither is the rainfall. I%26#39;d love to go in April but its expensive. I%26#39;ve found when looking for April theres not a lot of choice left because a lot have booked for then. I can%26#39;t find a fly drive for less than 拢500.

I am going in November as it was a lot cheaper and feb would def be cheaper too. So the answer is if you have the money go in April!

Have a lovely time Milly

I went in early feb this year and found it hot.

I know Presidents weekend is busy leading to the Holiday on Monday.

Thanks for the replies.

Nice link to allears.net, great site.Thanks.

The costs for Feb 16th or April 21st (after Easter) are within a few pounds to be honest, so cost isn%26#39;t the issue. Flydrive with virgin 2ad+2k 拢2200 all in 2wks for either. Need a villa for 拢700.

It%26#39;s just trying to avoid Spring break and holidays. May%26#39;s out for us due to SATS.

Last 2 weeks in Oct is a thought, but don%26#39;t know if I can wait that long!!!

Just the weather/crowds really.

Thanks again.

Mike

As a long-time resident, I%26#39;d recommend April -- the weather in February is very inconsistent -- just because it was warm this year does not in any way mean that that is the norm, and you could just as easily be wearing jumpers as bathing costumes.

President%26#39;s day is a non-issue tourism-wise - while there are a few exceptions, most schools only take that day off -- so the day itself might be a little busier with local kids, but it%26#39;s not a major blip.

April will, of course, be busier, but the weather will be anywhere from very good to stellar.

Thanks for all the replies.

I%26#39;m glad that Presidents day isn%26#39;t such a big deal.

Having looked at the weather reports for the past 10 yrs (I know that%26#39;s sad), Feb it is.

As my kids are only 7, and my dad is recovering from a quad bypass, 90deg heat ain%26#39;t so good. And tbh so long as it%26#39;s reasonably warm, that%26#39;ll do for me.

Seems like it%26#39;s about the same as a nice summers day here.

Swimming with dolphins here we come!

Thanks again all.

Mike

Mike,

Let me say that if you choose February, you do have pretty big crowds for President%26#39;s week, which in 2009 will run from Feb. 14-22.

Also, in February, Blizzard Beach waterpark will be closed for refurbishment.

The ';best days'; site does show crowd levels this past year were larger for President%26#39;s week than for the week in April you%26#39;ve choosen, plus April will have all the water parks open, if that matters.

Cripes!

That might torpedo that then. Had a look at allears.net and touringplans.com and they both confirm that. Also came across www.undercovertourist.com which has got monthly and daily traffic lights to give clues on best/worst times.

Even Disney states Presidents weekand the week after(my 2 weeks) are highest/more moderate attendance levels.

Blimey, what now. Mindful of temps not being OTT, whats end of October like as an alternative? Could tie it in with MNSSHP maybe.

Hurricane season is over by then isn%26#39;t it?

Thanks

Mike.

Hurricane season runs through November 30, but most years it%26#39;s run out of steam by the end of October.

We%26#39;ve USUALLY had our first cool spell by the third week of October, but not always -- you might need a light jumper, or it might be summer-hot...there just isn%26#39;t any knowing til we get there.

April, too, can be gorgeous and in the low 20sC, but can be approaching 30 by then, too.

Spring and autumn are, however, the best months of the year here.

End of October wouldn%26#39;t be too bad and the MNSSHP is quite fun

There is also the Food %26amp; Wine Fest at Epcot, that%26#39;s worth a visit, IMO :)
