just read on allears that fantasmic will be cut to just two performances a week from january 2009. it will now only be scheduled on a monday and thursday.
it is not clear yet whether it will be a permanent change.
take note if you are planning an itinerary for early next year! (and sorry if this was already posted!)
fantasmic cut to 2 nights a week from jan 09have you heard about the downtown disney nightclubs shutting too.
fantasmic cut to 2 nights a week from jan 09no really? why would they do that. they will lose a lot if business to universal if they do!
i cant understand why they are cutting fantasmic at all. its the big draw for us at hollywood studios and i have never seen that ampitheatre less than 80% full
saw it on the dibbs forum, aparently disney want to attract a more family orientated atmosphere down there, not loads of teenagers, as for fantasmic, i dont understand that at all, like you say it gets full nearly every night, its one of the biggest crowd pullers at MGM ( sorry hollywood)
Walt Disney World is shutting down the six nightclubs at Pleasure Island to make its party district at Downtown Disney more family friendly.
BET SoundStage Club, Mannequins Dance Palace, 8Trax and three other clubs that have for years catered largely to young, single adults -- rather than to Disney%26#39;s bread-and-butter family market -- will close after Sept. 27.
During the next couple of years, Disney will reopen the Pleasure Island venues with a broader mix of restaurants and shops.
Pleasure Island%26#39;s change has been the subject of rumors for a while. Now 19 years old, it may have seemed an odd venture for Disney, but it appeared to thrive -- so much so that some in the industry have blamed it for accelerating the decline of the nightlife district in downtown Orlando during the 1990s.
yes its true they will be closing the nightclubs from sept 28th!
oops crossed posts!
They are probably cutting Fantasmic back to save costs. Putting on a show like that every night has to be expensive.
Pleasure Island closing is sort of old news at this point. But according to Disney it%26#39;s because they want to make the area more family friendly. They%26#39;re going to be putting in more restaurants, etc. So I%26#39;m sure they have their reasons. I don%26#39;t think those clubs brought in a whole lot of wanted business. But I%26#39;m kind of bummed, I like the comedy club!
Cutting Fantasmic out to 2 nights a week is really old news to at this point.
Someone correct me if I%26#39;m wrong, but I don%26#39;t believe Fantasmic has a corporate sponser, which is probably why it%26#39;s landed in the ';cost cutting'; pile of Disney cutbacks.
my question is does everyone here think fantasmic should be cut back to two nights a week? Or is is worth way more than two nights a week?
They may make you start to make reservations for the show since they are cutting back to two nights per week. Just a thought . . . .
Considering the popularity of Fantasmic and the fact that the amphitheater gets filled up to capacity almost every night it%26#39;s shown, in any season of the year, I think anyone going during the time of year when it%26#39;s only shown twice a week is going to have a whole lot of company.
They already have a %26#39;reservation%26#39; system per se, with the Fantasmic dinner packages. I%26#39;m just guessing they are attempting to ';boost'; the number of folks booking and paying for the dinner package in off season times, since that will be the only way to be ';guaranteed'; a seat in the amphitheater on those two nights of the week when Fantasmic will be done.
