We are scheduled to fly down on Wed to stay on Sanibel island. We are still wrestling with the decision of heading down into what looks to be several more rainy days ahead in FL..and could the storm turn back to return westward?
Reluctant to give up our yearly travel to Sanibel though we may trek down anyway in hopes of finding a Junonia!!
We have options to either stay at the Sunset Beach resort or the West Wind. Looking for some feedback that will help us focus on one or the other.
Does anyone have information about folks starting to come back after having evacuted? WE would like to confirm if things are opening up if we come down tmo.
Thanks!
Sanibel: vacation decision wed on after Faye
If you haven%26#39;t checked out the thread called ';All Clear! (Mostly)'; you may want to as it sounds like things are quickly returning to normal on the island.
Sanibel: vacation decision wed on after Faye
Sanibel and Captiva are fine. No worse for wear than we were after the bad storms last week. In fact, less damage than up around where I live.
Word from other owners in residence at Pointe Santo said everything looks great and folks are trickling back onto the island today (there were no tolls!)
As far as the storm track, Sanibel is nowhere near where Fay will end up- it%26#39;s heading North to stay!
I like the location of West Wind Inn better- in the quieter section of the island. Nice pool.
Thanks all for the feedback!
It sounds like a we are gonna be on a mission for the prized ';Junonia';.
West Wind Inn is at 3345 West Gulf and Sunset Beach is at 3287 West Gulf so they are both in the quiet part of West Gulf near Rabbit Road I think. I stayed at Sunset Beach in early June and just loved it. Staff is very helpful, pool is large by Sanibel standards and there are also tennis courts, shuffleboard, hammocks and bikes offered free of charge; kayaks are available for rent. All equipment and furnishings (beach umbrellas/lounges and shaded lounges at the pool are complimentary and also new. Do be aware that it used to be a Best Western so it%26#39;s basically a two-decker motel with nice finishes (granite in kitchen and bathroom, heavenly beds, large flatscreen TV, etc). Continental breakfast (served in office and consisting of coffee, juice, pastry, cereal and a few fruit options is a nice touch but I%26#39;d plan on buying coffee or making your own if you%26#39;re a picky coffee drinker like me) and the NY Times are complimentary.
I have been through 2 tropical storms while in Sanibel, and the shelling was always great afterwards. Your timing is just right, hopefully!!
