My friends and I have an opportunity to go to Destin the second week in September - after the Labor Day rush. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to being in Destin at this time, as opposed to the peak summer months?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Susan
Destin in September
Sept/Oct are the best months of the year in Destin. The weather and water are both still warm, the beaches, restaurants, and roads are not crowded....
If you don%26#39;t have kids in school, this is The Best Time to be in Destin!
Destin in September
I agree - I couldn%26#39;t think of a better time to be there.
Great time = weather everything - but it is during the busiest part of hurricane season - but I have already spoken with Mother Nature and we are in the clear this year.
I really appreciate the input. Other than the hurricanes (which Beachlover has thankfully cleared with Mother Nature), September sounds great. We are definitely looking forward to spending that week with the people and places of Destin.

We will check in on Sept 1st and out on Sept 6th. Hopefully all the Labor Day folks will be gone. And hope the temps aren%26#39;t too awfully hot with high humidity. I%26#39;m from Okla so we have high humidity here, but once I was in Ft Lauderdale in June and I honetly couldn%26#39;t breath it was so bad.
Will Destin be as bad as Ft Lauderdale?
Thanks!
Destin is nothing like Fort Lauderdale. You%26#39;re good.
The 2nd week of September has been our week in Destin, off and on since the late 80%26#39;s (but not this year, deep sigh, sniff, tissue dabbing eyes).
We have always had a terrific time. You can almost see (and certainly feel) the area relax. It isn%26#39;t EMPTY but so much less crowded, especially with traffic on 98.
Granted, we have scooched down the road a bit and stay in Blue Mountain Beach but our treks into Destin are less crazy.
I will be in Destin from Sept.2nd to the 9th and staying at Holiday Surf and Racquet Club. We are so looking forward to being there at that time. Less people and a lot cheaper rates. More than enough to pay for the high gas prices. Am closely watching the weather and praying there aren%26#39;t any hurricanes. I haven%26#39;t been to Destin in 5 years and I loved it then and expect to this time as well.
The first two times we travelled to Destin, were in the first or second week of May to coincide with Mothers Day weekend, we were told by the people who managed the condo resort that we stayed at, that October was one of the most beautiful times to visit Destin.
We have had beautiful weeks there in the first week of April, 2 times visiting in May, and three times visiting in July,
Because our school district no longer allows vacations as ';excused absences';, we can no longer take youngest son out of school to go on vacation.
And spring break with our college boys is always a week before our youngest son%26#39;s high school spring break time. And the past few years the college spring break has been mid to late march.
Destin is pretty much beautiful always, I was amused when there, and people, told me that when it got to be under 50 Degrees, that they were so cold, it gets to zero or below here.
You will have a great time in september.
I have always wanted to go to Destin in September or October; as long as I have a school-age child, that can%26#39;t happen. I have been in May and in late July; beautiful both times. Funny thing is, my husband had this preconceived idea that the humidity and heat would be unbearable in July, but reluctantly agreed to go anyway; Turns out the highest temp in late July when we were there was 88 degrees and if the humidity was high I didn%26#39;t notice due to the awesome gulf breeze, especially at night, or maybe I am just used to oppressive Arkansas summer temps. One of our friends called us while we were in Destin on a different subject, and he told us it was 103 temp at home (Arkansas) and very high humidity; couldn%26#39;t even stand to go outside. So, I guess you never really know.
